Citing a violation of citizens’ fundamental rights, a petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court contesting the installation of a firewall and internet outage.
Through his attorney, Iman Mazari, senior journalist Hamid Mir made a petition for the protection of fundamental human rights that are impacted by the firewall.
According to the petition, residents’ rights to information access and freedom of speech are violated by the firewall installation. It asks the court to put a stop to the installation procedure until fundamental rights are guaranteed and all relevant parties are consulted.
The petition also asks for internet connection to be acknowledged as a basic human right that is necessary for subsistence.
